Our Trip to Burwardsley was a real success.  The children thoroughly enjoyed their time away and we have used this experience to inspire their writing, including:

We are currently reading 
Stig of The Dump 
by Clive King 
as our class text.

The children have enjoyed the beginning of the book and have already completed an initial  character description of Stig.  We will be using the book to work on focused objectives and in Guided Reading sessions as well as a basis for our topic work on the stone age.  

We aim to complete:
  • Recount of an event from another character's view
  • Comprehension questions
  • A book review
  • Our own adventure stories

We will study the author Clive King using ICT.  


The whole class should now have login IDS for the childen's maths website Sumdog.  The children have enjoyed using the site in school.  Sumdog offers a safe, fun way  for children to practise their mental maths online.

Our topic is  the Stone Age. ​​​

History​​ - The children had a fantastic introduction to the Ironage during their visit to Burwardsley, where they were able to handle Iron Age artefacts and visit a roundhouse.   Back in school we will step back in time again to the Stone Age where they will gain insight into how people lived, what food was eaten, symbols to communicate and also ​survival and hobbies. We will then progress through​​the Bronze Age and to the Iron Age.  ​​​We will be making timelines to  help the children develop their chonological awareness​​​ of British History.
Design Technology - Iron Age string making; Iron Age Pinch pots made from clay; candle making; Bronze Age jewellery.

Art - Observational sketches of the​ church at Burwardsley; Making our own Cave Drawings and Cave Hand Paintings.

Computing- using technology safely, respectfully and responsibly to select relevant and interesting information about our topic.  Also to select, use and combine a variety of software to present information about the Stone Age. 

Geography - Comparing and contrasting Runcorn with Burwardsley in terms of Human and Physical Geographical features.  We will be using Google Earth and OS Maps to explore these areas.  The children will be learning to make and use Keys to maps; compass points and OS Map features.  Wewill be using maps around teh school and in an orienteering activity at Burwardsley. 


Mrs Findlow will have the children for RE​ every Monday. They will be covering:
Jesus' friends and how he helped them
The 12 disciples
The feeding of the 5000


We will continue looking at Animals including Humans - focusing on Nurition and Teeth!


  • ​​​PE is every Monday.  
  • ​Spellings are tested on a Tuesday.
  • Guided reading sessions take place on Wednesday.
  • Please ensure the children have their reading books in school along with their reading records. We complete independent readers on a Monday, Thursday and Friday. 
  • Homework is given on a Friday for the following Wednesday. If the children would like additional support with their Homework, I will help them on a Monday or Tuesday morning break.
  • Homework will include a Times Table to learn.  This will be tested on th efollowing Friday​
  • Mrs Poynton works with the class on a Monday and Tuesday
  • Mrs Hyland works with the class on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday mornings
